A low rental price is useful only when the vehicle, supplier rules and pickup requirements fit the trip. DiscoverCars is a comparison and booking platform, while the rental company named on the voucher supplies the vehicle. Read that supplier's Rental Conditions before payment and again before travel.

Start with the journey, not the cheapest tile
Enter the real pickup and drop-off locations, flight timing, driver age, residence and border plans. Airport desks may be inside the terminal, reached by shuttle or located off-site. A late arrival can become a no-show if the desk closes, so record the desk hours and flight-number requirement.
Choose a vehicle class for passengers, luggage, roads and parking. A model image is normally illustrative; the reservation is commonly for a class or similar vehicle. Confirm transmission, doors, baggage estimate, mileage and air conditioning in the selected offer.
Compare supplier conditions line by line
| Decision | Verify before booking | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Driver | Age, licence history and additional-driver fee | Young or senior fees can change the total |
| Payment | Accepted card type, name and available limit | Pickup may fail without the required card |
| Deposit | Amount, currency and release process | Funds can remain unavailable after return |
| Travel | Mileage, ferry and border permission | Unapproved use can breach the agreement |
| Timing | Desk hours, grace period and no-show rule | A delayed arrival may cancel the booking |
Separate the security deposit from coverage
The security deposit is an amount the supplier blocks or collects under the rental agreement. DiscoverCars Full Coverage is a separate reimbursement product when selected; it does not necessarily remove the supplier's deposit at the desk. Check exclusions, required evidence and claim steps instead of treating the words 'full coverage' as a zero-liability promise.
Compare the supplier's collision, theft, glass, tyre, underbody and roadside terms with any card or travel policy you already hold. Avoid paying twice for the same protection, but never decline necessary protection until eligibility and claim procedures are confirmed in writing.
Understand the fuel policy
Full-to-full is easy to compare: collect at the stated level and return at the same level, keeping the final receipt. Other policies can include prepaid fuel, partial refund or a service charge. Calculate unused fuel and refuelling fees, not just the advertised daily rate.
Photograph the fuel gauge at collection and return. Ask the desk to correct a mismatch before driving away, because a time-stamped record is stronger than a later memory.
Prepare the pickup folder
Bring the voucher, driving licence, passport or accepted identification, the required payment card in the main driver's name and any international driving permit stated in the conditions. A digital wallet, debit card or another traveller's card may not satisfy the supplier even if it worked online.
At the counter, compare the rental agreement with the voucher before signing. Question added protection, upgrades, fuel products and equipment you did not request. Keep every signed page and receipt.
Inspect the vehicle and plan the return
Walk around the vehicle in good light. Record body panels, glass, wheels, tyres, interior, odometer and fuel level with photos or video, and ensure existing damage appears on the condition report. Test essential controls before leaving.
Leave time for refuelling, traffic, shuttle transfer and inspection. Obtain a return receipt or photograph the key-drop process. Monitor the card for deposit release and retain documents until all charges are settled.
Build a fair price comparison
Compare the same vehicle class, dates, mileage, deposit, cancellation rule and coverage. Add airport surcharges, one-way fee, additional driver, child seat, winter equipment, toll administration, fuel and card conversion. A slightly higher headline price may be better when it reduces a large deposit or includes a needed driver.

Make the final rental decision
Choose the offer whose important rules you can satisfy at pickup, not the one with the largest crossed-out price. Recheck the supplier, desk, card, deposit and cancellation terms immediately before payment and save the evidence that informed the choice.
Keep a decision record
Before checkout, save the exact product or plan name, selected variant, final price, controlling terms and the date checked. Mark each important requirement as confirmed, uncertain or not applicable. Resolve any uncertainty that could change eligibility, safety, compatibility, cancellation rights or total cost through current official documentation or written support. Keep the confirmation and receipt after purchase so a later return, warranty request, billing question or service claim can be compared with the information available when the decision was made.
